The Dinagat Islands is one of the five provinces in the Caraga region of the Philippines. The others are Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur.

Arlene “Kaka” Javellana Bag-ao assumed office as the congresswoman of the Dinagat Islands on June 30, 2013. On June 30, 2019, she and Nilo Pepito Demerey Jr. will assume office as the province’s mayor and vice mayor, respectively.

Born in Ermita, Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines, Bag-ao turned 49 on July 3, 2018. Born in Davao City, Philippines, Demerey turned 50 on October 23, 2018.

Founded on December 2, 2006, the Dinagat Islands has seven municipalities namely Basilisa, Cagdianao, Dinagat, Libjo, Loreto, San Jose and Tubajon. Collectively, the municipalities have 100 barangays, 12 of which are in San Jose, the capital of the province.

Born in Cab-ilan, Dinagat, Ruben Edera Ecleo Sr. founded the Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association, Inc. (PBMA) in 1965. The main office of the organization is in San Jose.
