2019 Guimaras congressman, governor, vice governor, board members elected

Guimaras is one of the major mango producers in the Philippines. Every May, the province celebrates a month-long cultural, agricultural and food festival called the Manggahan Festival.

On May 22, 1992, Guimaras became an independent province. Emily R. Lopez served as the first governor of the province, which was originally part of Iloilo, Philippines.

On June 30, 1998, Lopez was succeeded by Joaquin Carlos “JC” Rahman Araño Nava. On June 30, 2007, the latter assumed office as the congressman of Guimaras and on June 30, 2016, he was succeeded by his wife Maria Lucille Nava.

On November 19, 2018, JC turned 56. He and Lucille are residents of Jordan, Guimaras.

Guimaras has five municipalities namely Buenavista, Jordan, Nueva Valencia, San Lorenzo and Sibunag. These five municipalities collectively have 98 barangays, 14 of which are in Jordan, the capital of the province.

On July 15, 2017, Madelle Estaya represented Nueva Valencia at Miss Philippines Earth 2017 and competed against 39 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila. She was unplaced but she won the Miss Friendship award.
