Iloilo City is the only independent city in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines. The city is geographically located in Iloilo, Philippines but independent from the province.
On December 22, 1979, Iloilo City became a highly urbanized city. The city has seven districts namely Arevalo, City Proper, Jaro, La Paz, Lapuz, Mandurriao and Molo, which collectively have 180 barangays.
Born in Molo, Geronimo “Jerry” Perez Treñas assumed office as the congressman of Iloilo City on June 20, 2010. On June 30, 2019, he will assume office again as the mayor of the city, a position he held from June 30, 2001 to June 30, 2010.
