La Union is one of the four provinces in the Ilocos Region of the Philippines. The others are Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and Pangasinan.

San Fernando is the capital of La Union and the only component city of the province. The province also has 19 municipalities namely Agoo, Aringay, Bacnotan, Bagulin, Balaoan, Bangar, Bauang, Burgos, Caba, Luna, Naguilian, Pugo, Rosario, San Gabriel, San Juan, Santo Tomas ,Santol, Sudipen and Tubao.

Born in San Fernando, Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” Ramos Ortega III has been the governor of La Union since June 30, 2016. He turned 52 on March 26, 2019.

On August 16, 2014, Jean Marie Feliciano represented La Union at Miss Grand Philippines 2014 and competed against 16 other candidates at the GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She finished in the Top 10.

On April 30, 2017, Gabriela Patricia Ortega represented La Union at Binibining Pilipinas 2017 and competed against 39 other candidates at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. She finished in the Top 15.
