Occidental Mindoro is one of the five provinces of the Mimaropa region of the Philippines. The others are Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan and Romblon.
Josephine “Nene” Ylagan Ramirez Sato has been the congresswoman of Occidental Mindoro since June 30, 2013. She held the same position from June 30, 2001 to June 30, 2004.
Sato served as the vice governor of Occidental Mindoro from February 2, 1988 to June 30, 1992 and the governor of the province from June 30, 1992 to June 30, 2001. She turned 65 on April 29, 2019.

Occidental Mindoro has 11 municipalities namely Abra de Ilog, Calintaan, Looc, Lubang, Magsaysay, Mamburao, Paluan, Rizal, Sablayan, San Jose and Santa Cruz. The municipalities have 164 barangays, 15 of which are in Mamburao, the capital of the province.
On June 11, 2016, Rachelle Quiñonez represented Lubang and Karen Claudene Barot represented San Jose at Miss Philippines Earth 2016 and competed against 45 other candidates at the University of the Philippines Theater in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. They were both unplaced.
