Oriental Mindoro is one of the five provinces in the Mimaropa region of the Philippines. The others are Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan and Romblon.

Calapan is the capital of Oriental Mindoro and the only city in the province. The province has 14 municipalities namely Baco, Bansud, Bongabong, Bulalacao, Gloria, Mansalay, Naujan, Pinamalayan, Pola, Puerto Galera, Roxas, San Teodoro, Socorro and Victoria.
Pola native Edward Jake “Ejay” Lasap Falcon won the second season of the reality game show “Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition”, which aired on ABS-CBN from March 23, 2008 to June 7, 2008. He played Ian Santos in two episodes of the South Korean television series “Where Stars Land”, which aired on SBS TV from October 1, 2018 to November 26, 2018.
On August 16, 2014, Kimberly Karlsson represented Oriental Mindoro at Miss Grand Philippines 2014, competed against 16 other candidates at the GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines and won the title. On August 25, 2018, Loraine Joy Albania Arpia represented Socorro at Miss Tourism Philippines 2018, competed against 23 other candidates at Chateau Royale in Nasugbu, Batangas, Philippines and finished in the Top 16.
