Ormoc is geographically located in Leyte, Philippines but the city is independent from the province. However, the city is still part of the fourth congressional district of the province.

Lucy Marie Martinez Torres Gomez assumed office as the congresswoman of Leyte’s fourth district on June 30, 2010. Her husband Richard Frank Icasiano Gomez assumed office as the mayor of Ormoc on June 30, 2016.

Born in Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines, Lucy turned 44 on December 11, 2018. Born in Sampaloc, Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines, Richard turned 53 on April 7, 2019.

On October 20, 1947, Ormoc became a city. It is the 15th city in the Philippines.

Since 2010, Ormoc has been celebrating the Tugob Festival every October 20. The city celebrated the first edition of the Piña Festival in 2003 and its second edition in 2018.

On June 28, 2018, Alexa Marie Matuguina competed against 19 other Miss Ormoc 2018 candidates at the Ormoc City Superdome in Ormoc and won the title. The beauty pageant was part of the Piña Festival.

Runner-up to Matuguina was Princess Paraiso. The respective second, third and fourth runners-up were Micah Abarquez, Allyza Bartolini and Maria Nathalia Parrilla Veloso.

On June 29, 2018, Charybel Faith Dizon competed against nine other Piña Festival Queen 2018 candidates and won the title. She received 35,000 pesos from the government of Ormoc and another 50,000 pesos from Datu Zajid Gaguil “Dong” Mangudadatu, who has been the congressman of the second district of Maguindanao, Philippines since June 30, 2013.
