Puerto Princesa is geographically located in Palawan, Philippines but the city is independent from the province. Excluding the city, the province has a total land area of 14,649.73 square kilometers, making it the largest province in the country.
Puerto Princesa has a land area of 2,381.02 km². The city is included in the third congressional district of Palawan.

On May 27, 2012, Thoreen Halvorsen represented Puerto Princesa at Miss Philippines Earth 2012 and competed against 46 other candidates at the Center Stage of the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She ranked fourth and was crowned Miss Philippines Fire 2012.
On April 30, 2017, Halvorsen represented Palawan at Binibining Pilipinas 2017 and competed against 39 other candidates at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She was unplaced.
On October 7, 2018, Pearl Hung represented Palawan at Miss World Philippines 2018 and competed against 39 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. She ranked sixth and was named the second princess.
