South Cotabato is one of the four provinces of the Soccsksargen region of the Philippines. The others are Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani.

General Santos is geographically located in South Cotabato but the city is independent from the province. Kidapawan is the capital and the only component city of the province, which has 10 municipalities namely Banga, Lake Sebu, Norala, Polomolok, Santo Niño, Surallah, T’Boli, Tampakan, Tantangan and Tupi.

Born in Tupi, Reynaldo Sucayan Tamayo Jr. assumed office as the mayor of the municipality on June 30, 2010. He joined the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas in 2018.

On February 9, 2019, Tamayo turned 39 on February 9, 2019. He will assume office as the governor of South Cotabato on June 30, 2019.
