Sultan Kudarat is one of the four provinces in the Soccsksargen region of the Philippines. The others are South Cotabato, Cotabato and Sarangani.
Founded on November 22, 1973, Sultan Kudarat was named after Sultan Muhammad Dipatuan Kudarat. He was a direct descendant of Shariff Muhammed Kabungsuwan, a Malay-Arab noble from Johor, Malaysia.

Tacurong is the only component city in Sultan Kudarat. The province has 11 municipalities namely Bagumbayan, Columbio, Esperanza, Isulan, Kalamansig, Lambayong, Lebak, Lutayan, Palimbang, President Quirino and Senator Ninoy Aquino.
Lebak is home to the Notre Dame of Salaman College. One of its alumni is Sharifa Akeel, who was born in the municipality to a Qatari-Iranian father and a Filipino mother.
On September 16, 2018, Akeel represented Sultan Kudarat at Mutya ng Pilipinas 2018 and competed against 49 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She ranked first and was crowned Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific International 2018.
On October 4, 2018, Akeel represented the Philippines at Miss Asia Pacific International 2018 and competed against 50 other candidates at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Pasay City. She won the title.
