Surigao del Sur is one of the five provinces of the Caraga Administrative Region of the Philippines. The others are Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, the Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte.
Founded on June 19, 1960, Surigao del Sur has two component cities namely Bislig and Tandag. The province also has 17 municipalities namely Barobo, Bayabas, Cagwait, Cantilan, Carmen, Carrascal, Cortes, Hinatuan, Lanuza, Lianga, Lingig, Madrid, Marihatag, San Agustin, San Miguel, Tagbina and Tago.

On November 14, 2008, Venus Anne Baluya represented Surigao del Sur at Turismo Pilipina 2008 and competed against 55 other candidates at the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Theater in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She was unplaced.
On August 16, 2014, Rosevemme Fajardo represented Surigao del Sur at Miss Grand Philippines 2014 and compete against 16 other candidates at the GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center in Quezon City. She was runner-up to Kimberly Karlsson of Oriental Mindoro, Philippines.
