Training out of NRT Gym, Daniel “The Rock” Dawson, 41, of Australia was one of the winners at “ONE: Enter the Dragon.” It was his first victory in ONE Championship’s striking-only league ONE Super Series.
Featuring 10 mixed martial arts matches and six ONE Super Series contests, which were six kickboxing bouts, “ONE: Enter the Dragon” was the Singapore-based martial arts organization’s second event in 2019 that took place in Singapore. In the second bout of the evening, Dawson fought Brown Pinas, 26, of the Netherlands in a ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix alternate bout with Atsushi Onari as the referee.
Dawson was aggressive from the opening bell pummeling Pinas with a barrage of powerful punches and kicks. The Dutch kickboxer kept things competitive by using his reach to score points and keep his Australian opponent at bay.
After three three-minute rounds, the kickboxing contest was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Onari raised the hand of Dawson, who was declared the winner via split decision.
Winning at “ONE: Enter the Dragon” improved the professional kickboxing record of Dawson to 54 wins and 14 losses. On the other hand, Pinas now has 26 wins, 11 losses and 1 draw.
Dawson solely represented Australia at “ONE: Enter the Dragon” while Pinas was one of the three representatives of the Netherlands. Argentina, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Moldova, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine and the United States were also represented.
Born in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, Australia on October 15, 1977, Dawson is an eight-time world champion in Muay Thai, kickboxing and boxing training out of NRT Gym. “ONE: Enter the Dragon” marked his second ONE Super Series outing.
When Dawson made his ONE Super Series debut at “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” on September 8, 2018, he knocked out Mustapha “The Flying Dragon” Haida, 29, of Florence, Italy. The Australian kickboxer is also a contributing author at Australian news website FIGHTMAG.
