Fighting out of Hawthorne, California, United States, Christos “The Spartan” Giagos, 29, was one of the winners at “UFC Fight Night 153.” It was the Greek-American mixed martial artist’s third victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Featuring 12 MMA matches, “UFC Fight Night 153” took place at the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden on June 1, 2019. In the ninth bout of the evening, Giagos fought Danish-Bosnian fighter Damir “The Bosnian Bomber” Hadžović, 32, who is fighting out of Copenhagen, Denmark, in the lightweight division.

Rich Mitchell served as the referee. Giagos scored a big takedown in the first round, showcased his striking skills in the second round and struggled with fatigue in the third round.

After three five-minute rounds, the lightweight contest was left in the hands of the three judges, who scored it 29-27, 29-27 and 29-28. In the end, Mitchell raised the hand of Giagos, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

“I’m here to stay,” Gaigos said in his post-fight interview. “I just proved myself versus a guy who is coming from two wins so I’m definitely here to stay and I’m down for any challenge.”

Winning at “UFC Fight Night 153” improved the professional MMA record of Giagos to 17 wins and 7 losses. On the other hand, Hadžović now has 13 wins and 5 losses.

Born is Azusa, California, USA on January 23, 1990, Giagos is of Greek descent and is currently residing in Hawthorne. He has been competing professionally since 2010.

In 2014, Giagos made his UFC debut. The first two opponents he defeated in the promotion were Jorge “Blade” de Oliveira, 33, of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Mizuto “Pugnus” Hirota, 38, of Sumida, Tokyo, Japan.

Giagos was one of the four fighters who represented the U.S. at “UFC Fight Night 153.” Hadžović solely represented Denmark.

Including the U.S., Denmark and Sweden, 15 countries were represented at “UFC Fight Night 153.” The other countries were Austria, Brazil, England, Finland, Germany, Italy, the Northern Mariana Islands, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, South Korea and Spain.
