Katlyn “Blonder Fighter” Chookagian, 30, of Kenilworth, New Jersey, United States was one of the winners at “UFC 238.” It was the fifth victory of the Armenian-American mixed martial artist in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Featuring 13 MMA matches, “UFC 238” took place at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, United States on June 8, 2019. In the first bout of the evening, Chookagian competed in the women’s flyweight division against Joanne “Jo Jo” Calderwood, 33, of Glasgow, Scotland, with Dan Miragliotta as the referee.
Calderwood battered Chookagian’s left leg with kicks in the first round. In the second round, the Scottish fighter scored two takedowns but the American contender was the busier fighter.
Both Calderwood and Chookagian looked exhausted in the third round. The Scottish opponent scored another takedown but her American opponent managed to get back up quickly.
After three five-minute rounds, the flyweight bout was left in the hands of the three judges, who scored it 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28. In the end, Miragliotta raised the hand of Chookagian, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Winning at “UFC 238” improved the professional MMA record of Chookagian to 12 wins and 2 losses. On the other hand, Calderwood now has 13 wins and 4 losses.
Including Scotland and the U.S., 10 countries were represented at “UFC 238.” The other countries were Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Mexico, Peru, Poland and Russia.
Born in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, USA on December 28, 1988, Chookagian is of Armenian descent. She went to Quakertown Community Senior High School and Farleigh Dickinson University.
Chookagian started her karate training when she was 4 years old. As an MMA fighter, she has been competing professionally sine 2014.
In 2016, Chookagian joined the UFC. The first four opponents she defeated int the promotion were Lauren “Lucky” Murphy, 35, of Peoria, Arizona, USA, Irene “Robles” Aldana, 31, of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Mara “Kunoichici” Romero Borella, 33, of Polpenazze del Garda, Piacenza, Italy and Alexis “Ally-Gator” Davis, 34, of Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada.
