Representing the Netherlands, dancer, television presenter and social media manager Ashley Karym Peternella, 27, is one of the bachelors from around the world who will compete for the Mister World 2019 title. He is 6’2” tall.
Peternella hails from the Netherlands’ capital Amsterdam. Located in North Holland, the city is home to the Rijksmuseum, the Anne Frank Museum, the Van Gogh Museum, the Jordaan, Vondelpark, the Dam Square, the Royal Palace, the Rembrandt House Museum, Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam and the Oude Kerk.
Born on June 27, 1992 in Oranjestad, Aruba, Peternella speaks Dutch, Spanish, English and Papiamento. A graduate from Universiteit Maastricht in Maastricht, Netherlands with a degree in Knowledge Engineering and Computer Science, he works as a social media manager at the telecommunication company KPN.
In 2012, Peternella won three gold medals at the Nederlandse Studenten Turn Band Dutch Championship and the Latin Champions category of the 48th edition of the European Tournament for Dancing Students. For these, Universiteit Maastricht named him the Sportsman of the Year.
In 2013, Peternella represented Aruba in Mr. Gay World 2013 in Antwerp, Belgium. He won the Sports Challenge and finished in the Top 5.
On June 30, 2019, Peternella appeared in the Dutch version of “The Big Audition” and auditioned for the role of presenter for OUTtv. As one of the winners, he was offered a contract with the Netherlands-based TV channel.
Miss World Nederland national director Katie Maes appointed Peternella to represent the Netherlands in Mr. World 2019 making him the pageant’s first openly gay contestant. He replaced original winner Wahhab Hassoo.
The last time the Netherlands was represented in Mr. World was in 2014. In the eighth edition of the pageant, which took place in Torbay, Devon, England, Demian Overduijn, 28, of Venlo, Netherlands finished in the Top 10.
On August 23, 2019, Mr. World 2016 Rohit Khandelwal, 29, of India will crown his successor at the Mr. World 2019 coronation night at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. It will be the 10th edition of the international male beauty pageant.
Mr. World 2019 marks the first time the pageant is held in the Philippines. If Peternella wins the crown, he will be the pageant’s first titleholder from the Netherlands.
