Training out of MMA Lab in Glendale, Arizona, United States, Scott “Hot Sauce” Holtzman, 35, was one of the winners at “UFC on ESPN 5.” It was his sixth victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA on September 30, 1983, Holtzman earned an associate degree in Business Administration at Hiwassee College and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology at the University of Tennessee. He has been competing professionally since 2012.
Featuring 12 MMA bouts, “UFC on ESPN 5” took place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, United States on August 3, 2019. In the eighth bout of the evening, Holtzman fought “Maestro” Dong Hyun Ma, 30, of Busan, South Korea at a catch weight of 158 lbs with Gasper Oliver as the referee.
In the first round, Holtzman punched Ma with a well-placed right hand that caused the Korean fighter’s left eye to swell badly. The Busan native survived and managed to exchange attacks with his American opponent in the first two rounds.
But by the of the second round, Ma’s left eye had no more vision so the doctors had to stop the bout to prevent any further damage. In the end, Oliver raised the hand of Holtzman, who was declared the winner via technical knockout via doctor stoppage.
It was a redemptive win for Holtzman who was coming out of a unanimous decision victory to Nik “The Carnie” Lentz, 34, of Florida, USA. The victory was made even sweeter by the MMA Lab athlete’s son’s presence in the audience.
“It’s so special, man,” Holtzman shared in his post-fight interview. “I think since he’s been born, I’ve waited for this moment so for him to be here, it’s been incredible.”
Winning at “UFC on ESPN 5” improved Holtzman’s professional MMA record to 13 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Ma now has 16 wins, 10 losses and 3 draws.
Including the U.S. and South Korea, 11 countries were represented at “UFC on ESPN 2.” The others were Afghanistan, Brazil, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Peru, Poland and Serbia.
“UFC on ESPN 5” marked Holtzman’s ninth UFC bout. The first five opponents he defeated in the promotion were Tony Christodoulou, 31, of New York, USA, Cody “The Pfist” Pfister, 29, of Texas, USA, Michael McBride, 33, of Iowa, USA, Darrell “The Saint” Horcher, 32, of Pennsylvania, USA and Alan “Noguette” Patrick, 36, of Amazonas, Brazil.
