Fribourg, Switzerland’s Volkan Oezdemir earns 4th UFC win at ‘UFC Fight Night 156’ in Montevideo, Uruguay

Fighting out of Fribourg, Switzerland, Volkan “No Time” Oezdemir, 29, was one of the winners at “UFC Fight Night 156.” It was the Swiss mixed martial artist’s fourth victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Featuring 13 professional MMA bouts, “UFC Fight Night 156” took place at the Antel Arena in Montevideo, Uruguay. In the 10th bout of the evening, Oezdemir competed in the light heavyweight division against Ilir “The Sledgehammer” Latifi, 36, of Malmo, Sweden.

Keith Peterson served as the referee. He put a stop to the light heavyweight bout after 4 minutes and 31 seconds in the second round when Oezdemir knocked out Latifi via punches.

It was a redemptive win for Oezdemir who was riding a three-bout losing streak. In his most recent bout prior to “UFC Fight Night 156,” he lost via split decision to Dominick “The Devastator” Reyes, 29, of Victorville, California, United States.

“The most logical fight for me now would be Jan Blachowicz to get me close to a title shot again but I would like get my revenge on Dominick Reyes,” Oezdemir said in his “UFC Fight Night 156” post-fight interview. “Everybody knows the fight wasn’t his and I will prove it next time.”

Winning at “UFC Fight Night 156” improved the professional MMA record of Oezdemir to 16 wins and 4 losses. On the other hand, Latifi now has 14 wins and 7 losses.

Including Sweden and Switzerland, 11 countries were represented at “UFC Fight Night 156.” The others were Brazil, France, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Russia, Uruguay, Venezuela and the U.S.

Oezdemir solely represented Switzerland. Latifi was also the only representative of Sweden.

Born in Fribourg on September 19, 1989, Oezdemir made his professional MMA debut in 2010. As a professional kickboxer, he has 5 wins and 0 loss.

In 2017, Oezdemir joined the UFC. He defeated his first three opponents in the promotion namely Ovince “OSP” Saint Preux, 36, of Knoxville, Tennessee, USA, Mikhail “Misha” Cirkunov, 32, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Jimi “Poster Boy” Manuwa, 32, of London, England, United Kingdom.
