At the age of 65, Filipino environmentalist and philanthropist Regina Paz “Gina” La’O López lost her battle with brain cancer on August 19, 2019. Days prior to this, rumors about her death were shut down.
On June 30, 2016, Lopez was appointed as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources secretary in an ad interim basis under President Rodrigo Duterte. But on May 3, 2017, the Philippines’ Commission on Appointments formally rejected her appointment.
Several Filipino celebrities and personalities mourned Lopez’s death. Some of them took to Twitter to pay tribute to the late environmentalist and philanthropist.
