Bridgetown’s Ché Amor Greenidge to represent Barbados at Miss World 2019 in London

Ché Amor Greenidge, 25, will represent Barbados at Miss World 2019 in London, England, United Kingdom. She is an advocate for the Deaf community.

Hailing from Bridgetown, Barbados, Greenidge was crowned Miss World Barbados 2019 at the Helipad Car Park in Bridgetown, Barbados on August 31, 2019. She bested seven other candidates.

Miss Universe Barbados 2017

On September 3, 2017, Greenidge was competing in Miss Universe Barbados when she had a car accident. With a broken foot, she went on to compete against nine other candidates in the coronation night at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre in Saint Michael, Barbados on September 16, 2017.

Competing while on crutches, Greenidge finished in the Top 5. The title was given to Lesley Chapman, 28, of St. Michael, who was unplaced at Miss Universe 2017.

“Looking back at the competition I realized how I strong I am,” Greenidge told Nation News. “No one could have ever predicted a broken foot from a car accident. My greatest test was endurance and just hanging in there and pushing through the frustration and the sadness.

Miss World 2019

On December 14, 2019, Greenidge will compete against more than 100 candidates from around the world for the Miss World 2019 title at the ExCeL London in London, England, United Kingdom. The successor of Miss World 2018 Vanessa Ponce, 27, of Mexico will be the 70th woman to hold the title.

If Greenidge wins Miss World 2019, she will be the first ever titleholder of the international beauty pageant from her country. Her fellow Bridgetown native Ashley Lashley, 20, finished in the Top 30 in Miss World 2018 at the Sanya City Arena in Sanya, China on December 8, 2018.

From 2010 to 2014, Greenidge attended the University of the West Indies in Mona, Kingston, Jamaica and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. She was schoolmates with Miss Universe Barbados 2016 Shannon Harris of Chris Church, Barbados.

On December 4, 2017, Greenidge was declared one of the winners in the second annual Dorien Pile National Literary Competition, which was named after a former educator who assisted the Barbados Association for the Blind and Deaf for almost three decades, according to Barbados Today. She won in the senior’s category, beating 18 other entries.

Greenidge loves singing, baking and dancing. Prior to her coronation as Miss World Barbados 2019, the Bridgetown native participated in a conversation about the Small Island Future Fest.
