
Kenan “The Assassin” Song, 29, of Tangshan, Hebei, China was one of the winners at “UFC Fight Night 157,” which is also known as “UFC on ESPN+ 15.″ It was his third victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Featuring 11 professional mixed martial arts bouts, “UFC Fight Night 157” took place at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre Arena in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China on August 31, 2019. In the eighth bout of the evening, Song competed in the welterweight division against Derrick “D-Rock” Krantz, 31, of Marshall, Texas, United States.
John Sharp served as the referee. After three five three-minute rounds, the welterweight contest was left in the hands of the judges, who scored it 29-28, 29-28 and 29-28.
In the end, Sharp raised the hand of Song. The Chinese contender was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
“I gave my best in this fight,” Song said after his unanimous decision victory. “My opponent was very tough and skillful as well. Both of us are exhausted but I think it was a good fight.”
“UFC Fight Night 157” marked Krantz’s second UFC bout and it was Song’s fourth bout in the promotion. The American contender is training out of Longview MMA/Team 515 in Longview, Texas while the Chinese fighter is training out of Jackson Wink MMA Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA.
“I lost my last fight but failure is not scary,” Song said. “As long as you can defeat your own failure, you are the best.”
Winning at “UFC Fight Night 157” improved the professional MMA record of Song to 15 wins and 5 losses. On the other hand, Krantz now has 24 wins and 12 losses.
Eight countries were represented at “UFC Fight Night 157” namely Brazil, China, Japan, Mongolia, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea and the United States. Krantz was one of the four fighters who represented the U.S. while Song was one of the six representatives of the China.
The first two opponents Song defeated in the UFC were Bobby “Nashty” Nash, 29, of East Lansing, Michigan, USA and Hector “El Charro” Aldana, 31, of Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. Before facing Krantz at “UFC Fight Night 157,” Song lost to Alex “The Great White” Morono, 29, of Houston, Texas at “UFC Fight Night 141.”
Song was born in Tangshan on March 10, 1990 and she has been competing professionally since 2014. Before joining the UFC, he competed in Chinese Kung Fu Championships, Rebel Fighting Championship, World Fighting Championship, Worldwide MMA Alliance Championship, Bullets Fly Fighting Championship, Superstar Fight and Glory of Heroes.
