Chihuahua, Mexico’s Ashley Alvídrez to compete in Miss World 2019 in London, England

Ashley Alvídrez Estrada, 20, will represent Mexico in Miss World 2019.  \She is the 55th woman to represent the country in the oldest running international beauty pageant created by the late Eric Morley in the United Kingdom in 1951.

Born to Mexican parents in El Paso, Texas, United States on December 22, 1998, Alvídrez is a naturalized Mexican. She graduated from Horizon High School in Horizon City, Texas and attended El Paso Community College in El Paso.

Alvídrez started her modelling training when she was 16 years old. The Texan-Mexican beauty is also into basketball and volleyball.

In 2018, Alvídrez was crowned Miss Ciudad Juarez and Miss Chihuahua. Representing Chihuahua, she was crowned Miss World Mexico 2019 in Mexico City, Mexico on September 20, 2019 besting 31 other candidates.

Crowning Alvídrez was “Mexico’s Next Top Model” Season 5 winner Vanessa Ponce, 27, of Mexico City. On December 8, 2018, Ponce was crowned Miss World 2018 in Sanya, China making the first Miss World from Mexico.

Runner-up to Alvídrez as Miss World Mexico 2019 was Marilú Acevedo of Veracruz. Wendy Chávez of Chiapas was second runner-up.

 

Soy orgullosamente del Valle de Juárez (I am proud of Valle de Juárez),” told El Diario. “Estar cruzando de un lado para el otro no me hizo desprenderme de la ciudad y mucho menos negar mi origen. A veces las cosas se pueden ver duras durante algún tiempo pero todo es posible. No hay ninguna persona que te pueda decir que no puedes más que tú misma así que luchen por sus sueños. (Being across from one side to the other did not stop me from being part of the city, much less deny my origin. Sometimes, things can be hard for some time but everything is possible. There is no person who can tell you that you cannot do more than yourself so fight for your dreams.”

On December 14, 2019, Alvídrez will compete against more than 100 candidates from around the world for the Miss World 2019 title at the ExCeL London in London, England, U.K. Ponce’s successor will be the 69th woman to hold the title.
