Evolve MMA’s Angela Lee is still ONE Atomweight World Champion, submits Xiong Jing Nan at ‘ONE: Century 世紀’ in Japan

“Unstopabble” Angela Lee, 23, of Singapore is still the reigning ONE Atomweight World Champion. Training out of Evolve MMA in Singapore and United MMA in Hawaii, United States, she successfully defended her belt at “ONE: Century 世紀” in Tokyo, Japan.

“ONE: Century 世紀” was the second ONE Championship event held in Japan and marked the martial arts organization’s 100th live event. The combat sports event had two parts with 11 bouts each.

Featuring mixed martial arts, Muay Thai and kickboxing matches, “ONE: Century 世紀” took place at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo on October 12, 2019. In the main event of the first part, Lee was challenged by ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan, 31, of China with Olivier Coste served as the referee.

In the first round, the spectators enjoyed a solid action transpire with both Lee and Xiong having their moments. The Chinese challenger punished the Singaporean defending champion with crisp boxing combinations, which the latter took well.

On the other hand, Lee landed a couple of solid right hands and looked constantly for the clinch. In the second round, she continued to pursue the takedown in an attempt to bring the action to the ground.

It was in the third round when Lee began to dominate with her high-level grappling as Xiong started to wilt under pressure. In the fourth round, the challenger battled back brilliantly behind her jab-straight combination but the defending champion would not back down, firing combinations of her own.

In the final round, Lee executed an explosive belly-to-back suplex to bring Xiong to the canvas. Coste put a stop to the title bout after 4 minutes and 48 minutes in the fifth round when the defending champion submitted her challenger via rear-naked choke.

The victory improved Lee’s professional MMA record to 10 wins and 2 losses. Xiong now has 14 wins and 2 losses.


Including the Singapore and China, a total of 18 countries were represented in the two parts of “ONE: Century 世紀.” The others were Algeria, Belarus, Brazil, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and the United States.

Lee was one of the two fighters who represented Singapore while Xiong solely represented China. Watch the highlights of “ONE: Century 世紀” part 1 here:
