Representing Czech Republic, Klára Vavrušková, 20, was crowned Miss Earth-Water 2019 in the Philippines on October 26, 2019. It was the 19th edition of the international beauty pageant known for its advocacy for environmental awareness.
Vavrušková is a model born in Prague, Czech Republic but is now based in Kostelec nad Orlicí, Hradec Králové, Czech Republic. On August 25, 2019, she was crowned Česko-Slovenské Miss 2019 at the Karlín Music Theater in Prague, making her the representative of Czech Republic to Miss Earth 2019.
Including Vavrušková, a total of 85 women from all corners of the Earth competed in Miss Earth 2019. Hosted by James Deakin, 46, the coronation night took place at the Cove Manila in Okada Manila, Parañaque City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
Shontelle Layne, 34, who is mononymously known as Shontelle, performed two songs during the coronation night. She also served as one of the judges along with Asian Institute of Management president, dean and MVP chair of marketing Dr. Jikyeong Kang, Philippine Educational Theater Association founder Cecile Guidote Alvarez, theater actor Leo Valdez, Carousel Productions executive vice president Lorraine Schuck, ABS-CBN show “G Diaries” host Ernie Lopez and Loreto, Agusan del Sur, Philippines mayor Lorife Magadan-Otaza.
In the final question-and-answer portion, Deakin pointed out that there are many people, including some notable international leaders, who still do not believe in climate change. He asked the Top 4 finalists how they could convince such people of the seriousness of the problem.
“I think that climate change is a fact and it’s a need to solve it because it could be a problem in our next years,” Vavrušková answered. “I think that we have to solve it now because then for example for 10 years or 15 years, 20 years, it will be not like (we could) get back (what had been damaged) so we have to solve it now so let’s do it because it’s needed. Thank you very much.”
It was Nellys Pimentel, 21, of Puerto Rico who was crowned Miss Earth 2019. The other newly crowned queens were Miss Earth-Fire 2019 Alisa Manenok, 24, of Belarus and Miss Earth-Air 2019 Emanii Davis, 25, of the United States.
The 85 candidates were grouped intro three namely Water, Air and Fire. Vavrušková belonged to the Air group and earned the bronze medal in the Best in Swimsuit competition of the group and the silver medal in the Best in National Costume for candidates from Europe.
Vavrušková inherited the crown from Miss Earth-Water Valeria Ayos, 25, of Colombia. The other outgoing queens were Miss Earth 2018 Phuong Khanh Nguyen, 24, of Vietnam, Melissa Flores, 21, of Mexico and Miss Earth-Air 2018 Melanie Mader, 27, of Austria.
