Training out of Han Academy and IndoGym, Abro “The Black Komodo” Fernandes, 29, of Indonesia and Timor Leste has earned his first victory in ONE Championship. He was one of the winners at “ONE: Dawn of Valor,” which took place at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta, Indonesia on October 25, 2019.
“ONE: Dawn of Valor” featured 13 mixed martial arts bouts and three ONE Super Series contests, which are two kickboxing contests and one Muay Thai fight. In the fifth bout of the evening, Fernandes competed in an MMA bout in the flyweight division against Rudy “The Golden Boy” Agustian, 34, of Indonesia.
Yoshinori Umeki served as the referee. Agustian found success on the feet early but by the middle of the second round, Fernandes began to overpower his opponent and took control of the contest.
Agustian could not keep Fernandes off him for the remainder of the bout as the latter threatened with various submissions and did damage with ground-and-pound. After three five-minute rounds, the flyweight bout was left in the hands of the judges.
In the end, Coste raised the hand of Fernandes. The Han Academy and IndoGym representative was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Winning at “ONE: Dawn of Valor” improved the professional MMA record of Fernandes to 8 wins and 2 losses. On the other hand, Agustian now has 7 wins and 4 losses.
Including Indonesia and Timor Leste, 15 other countries were represented at “ONE: Dawn of Valor.” The others were Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Sweden, Tajikistan and the United States.
Agustian and Fernandes were among the 10 fighters who represented Indonesia. The latter solely represented Timor Leste.
Competing professionally since 2015, Fernandes joined ONE Championship in 2018. Meanwhile, here is a recap of “ONE: Dawn of Valor” from Michael Schiavello and Mitch “The Dragon” Chilson:
