ONE Championship held “ONE: Edge of Greatness” at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore on November 22, 2019. On the card were four Muay Thai matches and six mixed martial arts bouts.
In the co-main event, Ev “E.T.” Ting, 29, of Malaysia and New Zealand fought Amir Khan, 24, of Singapore in an MMA match in the lightweight division. After three five-minute rounds, referee Olivier Coste raised the hand of the hometown fighter, who was declared as the winner via split decision.
It was immediately followed by boos from the Singapore Indoor Stadium crowd, which seemed to disagree with two of the three judges. During the post-fight conference, ONE Championship chairman and chief executive officer Chatri Sityodtong said he believed it was Ting who won the fight.
A week later, I asked Ting if he would like to have a rematch with Khan in his next ONE Championship bout or he would rather face a new opponent. The Kiwi-Malaysian MMA star said, “I would love to stay busy to compete four times a year.”
Currently based in Auckland, New Zealand, Ting is originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he won 10 out of 10 ONE Championship bouts. On April 21, 2017, he successfully challenged then reigning ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang of Baguio City, Philippines at “ONE: Kings of Destiny” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
ONE Championship has yet to announce its fight cards and event titles for 2020. However, the Singapore-based martial arts organization confirmed that it will have events at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on January 31, 2020 and at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur on April 24, 2020.
Training out of Auckland MMA in Auckland, Ting now holds a professional MMA record of 17 wins, 6 losses and 1 No Contest. He told me, “I have unfinished business with Eduard Folayang in Manila so if they are looking to satisfy the crowd for January 2020, I am the man.”
