Team Lakay’s Joshua Pacio vs Evolve MMA’s Alex Silva at ‘ONE: Fire and Fury’ in Manila, Philippines

Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 23, of the Philippines will defend his ONE Strawweight World Championship title from Alex “Little Rock” Silva, 37, of Brazil at “ONE: Fire and Fury.” The Filipino defending champion is training out of Team Lakay in La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines while the Brazilian challenger is training out of Evolve MMA in Singapore.

ONE Championship will hold “ONE: Fire and Fury” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on January 31, 2020. It will the Singapore-based martial arts organization’s second event in 2020.

“ONE: Fire and Fury” marks Pacio’s 13th ONE Championship bout. Coincidentally, it is also Silva’s 13th outing in the Singapore-based martial arts organization.

 

On December 9, 2017, Silva became the ONE Strawweight World Champion by dethroning then champion Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito, 35, of Japan at “ONE: Warriors of the World” at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. But when they had their rematch at “ONE: Grit and Glory” at the Jakarta Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia on April 12, 2018, the Japanese challenger reclaimed the title.

On September 22, 2018, Naito lost the title to Pacio at “ONE: Conquest of Heroes” at the Jakarta Convention Center. But on January 19, 2019, the Team Lakay fighter also lost it to Yosuke “Tobizaru” Saruta, 32, of Japan at “ONE: Eternal Glory” at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta.

When Pacio and Saruta had their rematch at “ONE: Roots of Honor” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on April 12, 2019, the Filipino challenger reclaimed the ONE Strawweight World Championship title. In the same venue at “ONE: Masters of Fate” on November 8, 2019, the Team Lakay representative successfully defended his belt from his countryman Rene “The Challenger” Catalan, 41.

Currently, Pacio holds a professional MMA record of 18 wins and 3 losses. He is riding a two-bout winning streak.

On the other hand, Silva has 9 wins and 4 losses. Like Pacio, the Evolve MMA fighter is riding a two-bout winning streak.

Silva submitted Stefer “The Lion” Rahardian, 32, of Indonesia and Peng Xue Wen, 23, of China both via armbar at “ONE: Dreams of Gold” at the Impact Arena on August 16, 2019 and at “ONE: Edge of Greatness” at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore on November 22, 2019, respectively.
