BRAVE Combat Federation has yet to crown its champion in the flyweight division. One of the mixed martial artists who want to be the division’s inaugural champion is promotional debutante Zach “Fun Size” Makovsky, 36, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, United States.
On January 19, 2020, Makovsky will make his BRAVE CF debut at “BRAVE CF 34” at the Hala Tivoli in Ljubljana, Slovenia, which will be done in partnership with leading local promotion WFC. He and Velimurad Alkhasov, 28, of Grozny, Russia will battle it out in the flyweight division.
“BRAVE CF has a bunch of talented flyweights and I hope we get to see how I match up with them all,” Makovsky said. “My goal is to put on a string of great fights for BRAVE CF that culminates in a title fight and the championship round my waist.”
Makovsky is a former Bellator Bantamweight World Champion. He used to compete in the flyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship
As Makovsky’s BRAVE CF debut date approaches, he remains focused on Alkhasov and what the sambo world champion brings to the table. However, it is inevitable that the former Bellator champion and UFC veteran thinks about the biggest prize of them all, the inaugural BRAVE CF Flyweight championship.
While Makovsky admits he wants a run that culminates in the belt, he feels he needs to test the BRAVE CF Flyweights first. The Bethlehem native admits the lure of fighting martial artists from all over the world also attracted him to BRAVE CF, which holds events in all corners of the globe and will turn Slovenia into its 19th home in 34 events in the last three years.
Makovsky is excited to see how he matches up with Alkhasov and to fight in a new territory. The American contender said, “I’ve been fighting professionally for over 13 years.”
“I love training and competing and I now have another opportunity to fight amazing martial artists from all over the world under the BRAVE CF lights and is an honor for which I’m very grateful,” Makovsky continued. “Velimurad seems to be a skilled and successful fighter.”
“He has an effective kicking game, strong punches and obviously very strong grappling,” Makovsky said of Alkhasov. “We’ll see how I can match up with his skill set on fight night.”
