“Follow Alana” host Alana Nichols, 28, of Taiwan was one of the winners at the 2019 Asian Television Awards. It was the 24th edition of the annual awarding ceremony that recognizes achievements in the Asian TV industry.
Nichols won the Best Entertainment Presenter/Host award. She bested Julian Waghann of China, Karan Johar and Kamal Haasan of India and Kan Kanththavorn, Varavuth Jentanaku and Varavuth Jentanaku of Thailand.
Born in Taiwan with profound hearing loss in both ears, Nichols is the daughter of Taiwanese businessman Kenny Cheng and American international trade specialist Joanna Nichols, who passed away in 2001. Cheng and Joanna founded Children’s Hearing Foundation in 1996 to help hearing-impaired children.
When Alana was 2 years and 6 months old, she received a cochlear implant. It saved her hearing in her left ear and gave her the capacity for speech.
Alana was not able to attend the 24th Asian TV Awards, which took place at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines from January 10-12, 2020. Cathy Yang, Mark Neumann, Ase Wang and Wallace Ang served as the hosts.
