Mariah Clayton of Zachary, Louisiana, United States attended the Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana from 2014 to 2017. She was a member of the volleyball team of the university and graduated from the university with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
Clayton played volleyball at Zachary High School in Zachary. In 2012, she won the school’s Captain’s Award.
On October 9, 2019, Clayton won Miss Louisiana USA 2020 at the Lafon Performing Arts Center in Luling, Louisiana. On January 16, 2021, she crowned her successor Tanya Crowe at Jefferson Performing Arts Center in Metairie, Louisiana.
