
Jay Jay “The Maori Kid” Wilson, 22, of Glen Eden, New Zealand was one of the winners at “Bellator 238.” It was the undefeated Kiwi mixed martial artist’s fourth victory in Bellator MMA.
Featuring 15 MMA bouts, Bellator MMA held “Bellator 238” at The Forum in Inglewood, California, United States on January 25, 2020. In the fourth bout of the evening, Wilson competed in the featherweight division against Mario “Handsome” Navarro, 36, of Huntington Beach, California.
“Bellator 238” marked Wilson’s fourth Bellator MMA bout. It was Navarro’s fifth outing in the promotion.
Milan Ayers served as the referee of the match between Wilson and Navarro. The referee put a stop to the featherweight bout after 2 minutes and 48 seconds in the second round when the Kiwi contender submitted his American opponent via armbar.
Winning at “Bellator 238” improved the professional MMA record of Wilson to 5 wins and 0 loss. On the other hand, Navarro now has 4 wins and 6 losses.
Wilson has been competing professionally since 2018. The first three opponents he defeated in Bellator MMA were David Conte, 34, Carlsbad, California; Tyler Beneke, 29, of Banning, California and Jorge “The Warrior” Juarez, 23, of Menifee, Washington, USA.
Five countries were represented at “Bellator 238” namely Brazil, Canada, Hungary, New Zealand and the U.S. Wilson solely represented New Zealand while Navarro was one of the 25 fighters who represented the U.S.
In the main event of “Bellator 238,” Cristiane “Cris Cyborg” Justino Venâncio, 34, of Curitiba, Brazil dethroned then Bellator Women’s Featherweight World Champion Julia “The Jewel” Budd, 36, of Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada. The new champion previously held the title in the same division in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Strikeforce and Invicta Fighting Championships.
The co-main event was a quarter-final round of the Bellator Featherweight World Grand Prix. Darrion “The Wolf” Caldwell, 32, of Rahway, New Jersey, USA submitted Ádám “The Kid” Borics, 26, of Hungary.
