“Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang, 34, of Myanmar has been appointed as the brand ambassador of Dai-ichi Life Insurance Myanmar Ltd., which is part of leading Japanese life insurer Dai-ichi Life Group. In this role, the Burmese mixed martial arts superfighter will work with the company on its goal to promote life insurance in Myanmar.
The partnership will see Aung appearing in Dai-ichi Life’s community and business initiatives to increase awareness on the importance of insurance. These will include events for customers, agents, partners and employees, where he will speak on the benefits of life insurance and the company’s products and services.
“We are proud to work with Aung La N Sang to educate the communities we work with about life insurance and how it can better their lives and their families’,” Dai-ichi Life Insurance Myanmar CEO Daw Zarchi Tin said. “The partnership was formed out of a shared passion to help the people of Myanmar secure a better future with the right knowledge to plan their finances, driven by our people-first approach and commitment to be by our customers’ sides for life.”
Dai-ichi Life Insurance Myanmar deputy CEO Yoshihito Takahama noted that the Myanmar people know and feel proud of Aung and described the reigning ONE Middleweight and Light Heavyweight World Champion as “a well-respected national sportsman and a family man.” The Burmese MMA fighter has been competing in ONE Championship since 2014.
“We are excited to have such an inspiring personality work with us on our efforts to encourage better financial planning practices among our customers and the public,” Takahama said. “Aung La N Sang’s participation validates the work we do and encourages more people to learn about our products and services or even join us in the cause.”
Granted full operational license for Life Insurance in November 2019, Dai-ichi Life will be rolling out a suite of new insurance products designed to meet the needs of different customer segments, providing valuable protection and long-term support for financial planning. At present, low market awareness of life insurance, a widespread need for long-term financial planning and growing concerns about healthcare costs are issues all insurers in Myanmar must overcome for progress to happen.
Born in Myitkyina, Kachin, Myanmar on May 21, 1985, Aung is an avid supporter of Myanmar-based community projects for childhood education, farmers’ welfare and other causes. The country’s liberalization of the insurance sector has provided experienced foreign insurers with the opportunity to bring dramatic change and catapult the nascent sector into a thriving industry that is sensitive to the needs of the people.
