
Travelling to and from Metro Manila, Philippines will be prohibited from March 15, 2020 to April 14, 2020 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. This was announced by President Rodrigo Duterte on March 12, 2020.
Duterte declared that the alert level for the coronavirus has been raised to its maximum level of Code Red Sublevel 2. As prescribed by the the Inter-Agency Task Force on the coronavirus outbreak, the 16 cities and one municipality of Metro Manila are covered in the lockdown.
“The recommendation of the Department of Health Technical Advisory Group on imposing Stringent Social Distancing Measures in the National Capital Region are adopted for a period of 30 days,” the resolution number 11 of the IATF reads. “Land, domestic air, and domestic sea travel to and from Metro Manila shall be suspended after the expiration of 48 hours from issuance of this Resolution.”
On the same day of the announcement of Metro Manila lockdown, the Philippines’ Department of Health announced that three new cases of the coronavirus were recorded in the country. This brings the total tally to 52.
The three patients are a 69-year-old female (Patient 50), a 26-year-old male (Patient 51) and a 79-year-old female (Patient 52), who all went to different hospitals. The first two, who are residents of Quezon City, Metro Manila, showed symptoms on February 28, 2020 and on March 8, 2020 although they both had no travel history.
On the other hand, Patient 52 had a travel history to the United Kingdom. Her symptoms manifested on March 1, 2020 and her residence was not confirmed.
Patient 50 is currently admitted to The Medical City in Pasig City, Metro Manila while Patient 51 is admitted to the Makati Medical Center. Patient 52 is admitted to the Asian Hospital and Medical Center.
Two have died out of the 52 coronavirus patients in the Philippines. They were a 44-year-old Chinese man who traveled from Wuhan, China to the Philippines and a 67-year-old Filipino woman with no travel history outside the country.
