Nahuel “El Roble” Gandolfi of La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina turned 30 today. The Argentine professional mixed martial artist celebrated his birthday in Cainta, Rizal, Philippines while almost everyone in the world is in community quarantine due to the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Gandolfi is training out of UGB MMA in Cainta, where he is currently based. He arrived in the Philippines on February 15, 2020.

The Argentine MMA fighter holds a professional MMA record of 15 wins and 4 losses. In time for his 30th birthday, here are 30 things about him:

  1. He was born on March 28, 1990 in La Plata, where he was also raised.
  2. He stands 5’7″ and his normal fighting weight is 61 kg (bantamweight) although he has also fought in other weight classes.
  3. Before moving to the Philippines, he has been to Bahrain, Brazil, China, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, Turkey and Uruguay.
  4. He speaks Spanish, Portuguese and English.
  5. He is the eldest of three children.
  6. He has one younger sister and one younger brother.
  7. Their father is a former chief of police in La Plata.
  8. A 4th degree black belt in shidōkan karate, their father gave karate trainings to him, his siblings and some of their cousins when they were young.
  9. He considers his father, his first sensei, as the strongest man in the world and his first hero.
  10. He considers Kyokushin creator Masutatsu Oyama as his second hero.
  11. His first tattoo was for Oyama, which is on his chest.
  12. He attended Escuela N° 19 “Gral. José de San Martín”, La Unidad Académica Escuela Normal Superior N° 1 “Mary O. Graham” in La Plata and the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, which are all in La Plata.
  13. He used to work for the police, particularly in the Ministerio de Justicia y Seguridad in Buenos Aires.
  14. On April 12, 2014, he made his professional MMA debut at “Hualsur Fighting Championship” at the Quality Place in Cordoba, Argentina where he defeated his fellow Argentine fighter Maximilliano Giron.
  15. He is a big fan of Igor “Ice Cold” Vovchanchyn, 46, of Ukraine, Georges “Rush” St-Pierre, 38, of Canada and Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, 33, of the United States.
  16. He won six bouts in Pan-American Association of Martial Arts from 2014 to 2015.
  17. His first professional MMA loss was in the hands of his countryman Brian Flamengo in their rematch at “La Jaula Del Dogo 1” at the River Plate Sports Center in Azul, Argentina on November 8, 2014.
  18. All of his first nine professional MMA bouts took place in Argentina.
  19. “Aspera FC 41: Road to KSW,” which took place at the Arena Multiuso in Sao Jose, Santa Catarina, Brazil on July 9, 2016, marked his first professional MMA bout in Brazil and outside Argentina.
  20. He earned his first professional MMA win in Brazil and outside Argentina at “Aspera FC 41” by submitting Silvio Fernandes of Brazil via rear-naked choke in the first round.
  21.  “Aspera FC 49,” which took place at the Ginásio Sergio Lorenzato in Balneario Camboriu, Santa Catarina, Brazil on February 18, 2017, marked his first professional MMA loss in the country and outside Argentina.
  22. “WLF W.A.R.S. 24,” which took place at the Henan TV Station Hall 8 in Zhengzhou, China on May 11, 2018, marked his professional MMA bout in the country and in Asia.
  23. He has his first professional MMA loss in China and in Asia at “WLF W.A.R.S. 24,” where he was knocked out by Zelanghuadeng of China.
  24. He married Carolina Gandolfi on May 24, 2019.
  25. He visited Baguio City, Philippines for the first time on February 16, 2020.
  26. Days before moving to the Philippines, he was appointed as the director of the Asociación Panamericana de Artes Marciales- Filipinas.
  27. His first professional MMA bout in Middle East was at “BRAVE CF 29” at the Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town, Bahrain on November 15, 2019.
  28. “BRAVE CF 29” also marked the first time he competed in the main event of an MMA event outside Argentina.
  29. His nutritionist is Nicolás Díaz, who served as his cornerman at “BRAVE CF 29.”
  30. None of his 19 professional MMA fights from April 2014 to January 2020 ended in the judges’ decision.
