Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, 31, believes that Igorots are handling the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic well. For the former ONE Flyweight World Champion, this has something to do with the genes and lifestyle.

“Being an Igorot, most especially (with) the genes (that we have) and the lifestyle that we live, has really helped us during this pandemic,” Eustaquio. “We are very resilient people.”

“We hold our pride high,” the Igorot mixed martial artist continued. “We can survive and we can adapt on our own.”

For Eustaquio, staying stress-free is an important part of staying healthy and virus-free. He shared, “I still find ways to train but it’s more of home workouts and running.”

“We stay at home and maintain a healthy lifestyle,” Eustaquio continued. “(Have) no stress and panic. Just exercise, and of course, (have) the right diet.”

Working out at home is not the only thing that keeps Eustaquio busy while in quarantine. He and his teammates are also helping out the communities in Baguio City, Philippines and in La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines.

Eustaquio is training at Team Lakay in La Trinidad. The MMA team was founded by Mark “The Machine” Sangiao, 41, who also serves as the head coach.

Team Lakay is home to some of the top athletes in ONE Championship. Among Eustaquio’s teammates are Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly, 35, Lito “Thunder Kid” Adiwang, 27, Southeast Asian Games 2019 gold medalist Gina “Conviction” Iniong Gina “Conviction” Iniong, 30, ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix finalist Danny “The King” Kingad, 24, former ONE Featherweight World Champion Honorio “The Rock” Banario, 30, former ONE Bantamweight World Champion Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 32, former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 36, and reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 24.
