Zagreb is the capital of Croatia. The country borders Hungary to the northeast, Slovenia to the northwest, Serbia to the east and Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro to the southeast.
Currently, Croatia has four Miss Universe placements. Representing the European country, Sarah Ćosić finished in the Top 15 in 2009, Elizabeta Burg and Shanaelle Petty finished in the Top 16 in 2012 and 2017, respectively, and Mia Rkman finished in the Top 20 in 2019.
On October 1, 2019, Burg turned 26. She was born in Vrbanja, Croatia.
On February 28, 2020, Petty turned 22. She was born in Bad Kreuznach, Germany to an African American father and a Croatian mother.
On April 14, 2020, Ćosić turned 31. Ćosić was born in Split, Croatia.
On April 28, 2020, Rkman will turn 23. She was born in Korčula, Croatia.
Miss Universe Croatia 2019
On April 27, 2019, Rkman was crowned Miss Universe Croatia 2019 in Zagreb. The coronation ceremony featured performances by Goran Karan, Jacques Houdek and Roko Blažević.
Rkman competed against 18 other candidates including Tea Slavica and Maja Čatlak, the respective first and second runners-up. Petra Krivić won the Miss Photogenic award.
Representing Croatia, Rkman finished in the quarterfinals of Miss Universe 2019 at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, United States on December 8, 2019. She competed against 89 other candidates including Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa who won the title.
Miss Universe Croatia 2020
On May 13, 2020, Rkman will crown her successor at the Hrvatska Radiotelevizija (HRT) Studio in Zagreb. It is the 24th edition of the national beauty pageant that selects Croatia’s Miss Universe candidate.
