Chase “Vanilla Gorilla” Sherman, 30, of D’Iberville, Mississippi, United States was one of the winners at “UFC Fight Night 175,” also known as “UFC on ESPN+ 29.” It was his third victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Featuring 10 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC Fight Night 175” took place at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, USA on May 13, 2020. In the first bout of the evening, Sherman fought Ike “Hurricane” Villanueva, 36, of Houston, Texas, USA in the heavyweight division.
Michael Cardoso served as the referee. He put a stop to the heavyweight contest after 49 seconds in the second round when Sherman knocked out Villanueva via elbows and punches.
This makes Sherman one of the three MMA fighters with the most standing elbow finish ties in the UFC. The other two are Travis Browne and Alan Jouban.
Villanueva made his UFC debut at “UFC Fight Night 175.” Losing to Sherman downgraded the professional MMA record of the Texan athlete to 16 wins and 10 losses.
On the other hand, “UFC Fight Night 175” marked Sherman’s return to the UFC after competing in Island Fights and Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. He now has 14 wins and 6 losses.
