Glover Teixeira, 40, of Sobrália, Minas Gerais, Brazil was one of the winners at “UFC Fight Night 175,” also known as “UFC on ESPN+ 29.” It was the Portuguese-Brazilian mixed martial artist’s 14th victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Featuring 10 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC Fight Night 175” took place at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, USA on May 13, 2020. In the main event of the evening, Teixeira fought Anthony “Lionheart” Smith, 31, of Omaha, Nebraska, USA in the light heavyweight division.
Jason Herzog served as the referee. While Teixeira was on top of Smith delivering blows in the fourth round, the Omaha native handed his teeth that fell out to the referee.
Still, Smith’s corner let him go out for the fifth round. In the end, Herzog put a stop to the light heavyweight contest after 1 minute and 4 seconds in the fifth round when Teixeira knocked out Smith via ground and pound.
Winning at “UFC Fight Night 175” improved the professional MMA record of Teixeira to 31 wins and 7 losses. He is now riding a four-bout winning streak.
On the other hand, Smith now has 33 wins and 15 losses. It was his third loss in the UFC.
Six countries were represented at “UFC Fight Night 175” namely Belarus, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, the U.S. and Venezuela. Teixeira was one of the three representatives of Brazil while Smith was one of the 13 fighters who represented the U.S.
Born in Sobrália on October 28, 1979, Teixeira has been competing professionally as an MMA fighter since 2002. He made his UFC debut in 2012.
From 2012 to 2013, Teixeira defeated all of his five UFC opponents namely Kyle Kingsbury, Fabio Maldonado, Quinton Jackson, James Te Huna and Ryan Bader. From 2015 to 2019, the Portuguese-Brazilian MMA fighter defeated eight opponents in the promotion namely Ovince St. Preux, Patrick Cummins, Rashad Evans, Jared Cannonier, Misha Cirkunov, Karl Roberson, Ion Cutelaba and Nikita Krylov.
Teixeira and Drew Dober, 31, of Denver, Colorado, USA were the two recipients of the Performance of the Night bonuses at “UFC Fight Night 175.” Presented by Toyo Tires, the Fight of the Night was the featherweight bout between Brian “Boom” Kelleher, 33, of Selden, New York, USA and Hunter Azure, 28, of Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
