The 2020 BET Awards marked the 40th anniversary of the network owned by the ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks unit of ViacomCBS. It was a virtual event hosted by “The Real” co-host Amanda Seales, 38.

“Now, I must admit this BET Awards is a little different,” Seales said in her monologue. “The main thing is it’s virtual. We’re getting real in touch with being real inside because outside is on one. It’s got COVID and cops and Karens gone wild.”

Before Seales’ monologue, the 2020 BET Awards opened with the “Fight the Power” performance of Keedron Bryant, 12. The other songs performed during the event were “Perfect Way to Die” by Alicia Keys, “Forgive Me” and “Do It” by Chloe x Halle, “Never Break” by John Legend, “Kobe Bryant” by Lil Wayne, “Girls in the Hood” and “Savage” by Megan Thee Stallion, “High Fashion” and “The Box” by Roddy Ricch and “ROCKSTAR” by DaBaby and Ricch.
