Ghislaine Maxwell biography: 13 things about Jeffrey Epstein’s ex-girlfriend

Ghislaine Maxwell is a British socialite. She is known for her association with Jeffrey Epstein, an American financier, socialite and convicted sex offender.

On August 10, 2019, Epstein was found dead in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City, New York United States. Maxwell was his former girlfriend and longtime business associate.

Maxwell is the youngest child of Czech-British publishing tycoon Robert Maxwell and French Holocaust researcher Elisabeth Meynard Maxwell. Here are 13 more facts about Ghislaine:

  1. She was born in Maisons-Laffitte, Île-de-France, France on December 25, 1961.
  2. She has two elder sisters namely Christine Maxwell and Isabel Maxwell and two elder brothers Kevin Maxwell and Ian Maxwell.
  3. She attended Marlborough College in Marlborough, Wiltshire, England and Balliol College, one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford in Oxford, England, United Kingdom.
  4. After her father’s death in November 1991, she moved from the U.K. to the United States.
  5. She is accused of assisting, facilitating and contributing to Epstein’s abuse of minor girls from 1994 to 1997.
  6. In 2012, she founded The TerraMar Project, a self-described environmental nonprofit organization with a focus on ocean protection that announced closure on July 12, 2019.
  7. In 2014, she gave a lecture for TerraMar at the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, Texas, USA and a TED talk at TEDx Charlottesville.
  8. She was once paid to manage Epstein’s properties.
  9. She has 15 different bank accounts. Between 2007 and 2011, Epstein transferred more than $20 million from his own accounts to her. She later sent him back some of those funds.
  10. After ending her relationship with Epstein, she became romantically involved with Gateway, Inc. co-founder Theodore W. “Ted” Waitt. As Waitt’s guest, she attended the wedding of investment banker Marc Mezvinsky and presidential daughter Chelsea Clinton at the Astor Courts estate in Rhinebeck, New York, USA on July 31, 2010.
  11. On March 12, 2020, she filed a lawsuit in the Superior Court of the U.S. Virgin Islands seeking compensation from Epstein’s estate for her legal costs.
  12. On July 2, 2020 at around 8:30 a.m., the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested her in a 156-acre property in Bradford, New Hampshire, USA, which was bought for $1 million in December 2019 by an anonymous limited liability corporation.
  13. She is facing federal charges of conspiring with Epstein to sexually abuse children and for lying about her alleged conduct as his procurer. She is represented by criminal defense lawyer Lawrence Vogelman.
