Muhammad “The Punisher” Mokaev, 20, of England and Russia was one of the winners at “BRAVE CF 37.” It was his first victory in the Bahrain-based mixed martial arts promotion BRAVE Combat Federation.
In partnership with Swedish MMA promotion Bulldog Fight Night, BRAVE CF held “BRAVE CF 37” in Stockholm, Sweden on August 1, 2020 with eight professional MMA bouts. In the sixth bout of the evening, Mokaev fought Glenn McVeigh, 23, of Northern Ireland in the bantamweight division.
Kevin Sataki served as the referee. McVeigh hung tough and showed he belonged in the cage, having a good performance in the first round and impressing with his submission defense in the second and third rounds but he had too much on his hands and was not able to stop Mokaev’s takedowns and great striking offense.
Both Mokaev and McVeigh hyped up the fight in the last few days. They were close to starting fighting twice before actual fight night, which were in an unexpected meeting in the host hotel lobby and then in the post-weigh-ins staredowns.
Inside the BRAVE CF arena, Mokaev and McVeigh kept the trash talk on high volume and the lack of fans made for great viewing as fans at home were treated to their exchanges. At one point, Sataki had to ask both fighters to watch their words.
The bantamweight contest was left in the hands of the three judges after three five-minute rounds. In the end, Sataki raised the hand of Mokaev, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
After the bout, Mokaev said their beef was squashed but admitted he still had a problem with McVeigh giving him a finger in a pre-fight post on social media. The Dagestani-English MMA fighter also asked for a fight in Poland where BRAVE CF is making its debut on September 5, 2020.
Both Mokaev and McVeigh made their professional MMA debut and BRAVE CF debut at “BRAVE CF 37.” This means the Dagestani-English MMA fighter now holds a professional MMA record of 1 win and 0 loss while the Northern Irish MMA fighter now has 0 win and 1 loss.
Fourteen countries were represented at “BRAVE CF 37” namely Afghanistan, Brazil, Chile, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Northern Ireland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and Turkey. Mokaev solely represented both England and Russia while McVeigh was the sole representative of Northern Ireland.
In the main event of the evening, Louis “Spartacus” Glismann, 29, of Copenhagen, Denmark fought Henri Lintula, 29, of Kerava, Uusimaa, Finland in the welterweight division. The Danish contender submitted his Finnish opponent via rear-naked choke.
In the co-main event, Irman “The People’s Champ” Smajić, 37, of Sweden fought Fatih Aktas, 30, of Turkey in the heavyweight division. The Swedish contender won via unanimous decision.
