Ľudovít “Mr. Highlight” Klein, 25, of Nové Zamky, Slovakia has earned his first victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The Slovak mixed martial artist was one of the winners at “UFC 253.”
Featuring 11 MMA matches, including two title bouts, “UFC 253” took place at the Flash Forum on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on September 26, 2020 in the United States or September 27, 2020 in the UAE. In the fourth bout of the evening, Klein fought Shane “Sugar” Young, 27, of Auckland, New Zealand.
Young and Klein battled it out at a catch weight of 150lbs. Kevin Sataki served as the referee.
Sataki put a stop to the catchweight contest after 1 minute and 16 seconds in the first round. Klein knocked out Young via head kick and punches.
Winning at “UFC 253” improved the professional MMA record of Klein to 17 wins and 2 losses. The Slovak MMA fighter is now riding an eight-bout winning streak.
It was Young’s second loss in the UFC. The Auckland native now has 13 wins and 5 losses.
Twelve countries were represented at “UFC 253” namely Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, Jamaica, New Zealand, Nigeria, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Spain and the U.S. Young was one of the four fighters who represented New Zealand while Klein solely represented Slovakia.
Born in Slovakia on February 22, 1995, Klein has been competing professionally since 2014. Training out of Spartakus Fight Gym in Trnava, Slovakia, he made his UFC debut at “UFC 253.”
Klein is the first MMA fighter to represent Slovakia in the UFC. Before joining the promotion, the Nové Zamky native competed in Pit Cage Fighting, Hanuman Cup, Fight of Gladiators, A-Fight, Absolute Championship Akhmat, Dark KNight Nové Zamky, Cage Warriors Fighting Championship, Oktagon MMA and X Fight Nights.
In the co-main event of “UFC 253,” Dominick “The Devastator” Reyes, 30, of Victorville, California, USA lost to Jan Blachowicz, 37, of Cieszyn, Poland when they competed for the then vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. In the main event, Paulo “Borrachinha” Costa, 29, of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil failed to dethrone UFC Middleweight Champion Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya, 31, of New Zealand and Nigeria.
