Featuring five mixed martial arts matches and one Muay Thai title bout, “ONE: Reign of Dynasties” is a closed-door event held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore on October 9, 2020. In the first bout of the evening, Mainam fought Liu Peng Shuai (刘彭帅), 24, of Beijing, China in an MMA contest in the flyweight division.
Mohamad Sulaiman served as the referee. Mainam put together a solid all-around performance, blasting opponent Liu with combinations on the feet before finishing him off in the second round.
In the first round, Mainam and Liu spent a few moments trading strikes but as soon as action hit the mat, the Indian MMA fighter immediately went to work, taking his Chinese opponent’s back and then sinking in a rear-naked choke.
With the choke in deep, Liu had no choice but to tap out. Sulaiman put a stop to the flyweight contest after 2 minutes and 27 seconds in the second round.
Winning at “ONE: Reign of Dynasties” improved the professional MMA record of Mainam to 5 wins and 2 losses. He is now riding a two-bout winning streak.
On the other hand, Liu now has 6 wins and 5 losses. It was his second loss in ONE Championship.
Training out of Evolve MMA, Mainam made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Masters of Fate” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on November 8, 2019. He submitted Khon Sichan, 32, of Cambodia via armlock in the first round in an MMA match in the flyweight division.
Eight countries were represented at “ONE: Reign of Dynasties” namely Australia, China, Finland, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. Mainam and Rahul “The Kerala Krusher” Raju, 28, represented India while Liu and “Wolf of the Grasslands” Hexigetu, 31, represented China.
“We are honored that ONE Championship has been entrusted by the Singapore Government to pilot the return of international sports events for broadcast from Singapore,” ONE Championship group president Hua Fung Teh said days before the fight night. “We are thrilled to be able to bring our local and international heroes back to the Singapore Indoor Stadium to inspire martial arts fans in Singapore and around the world with their inspiring combination of heart, hard work and talent.”
