Said Nurmagomedov (Саид Нурмагомедов) is a Russian professional mixed martial artist. He is a native of Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia.

Dagestan is home to many world-class MMA fighters including Khabib Nurmagomedov and his cousin Umar Nurmagomedov. They are not related to Said by blood.

Said stands 5’8″ and competes in the featherweight and bantamweight divisions. Here are 13 more things about the Dagestani MMA fighter:

 

  1. He was born in Makhachkala on April 5, 1992.
  2. On August 22, 2009, he made his professional MMA debut at “World Ultimate Full Contact 15” in Viseu, Portugal. He submitted Oscar Nave of Portugal via armbar in the first round.
  3. After going on hiatus from 2010 to 2012, he made his professional MMA return on May 12, 2003. He submitted Jolon Uulu Jayloobay of Russia at “Vale Tudo 3” via armbar in the first round in Moscow, Russia. It was his first professional MMA bout in Russia.
  4. In 2014, he won three out of his four bouts in Absolute Championship Berkut, which all took place in Grozny, Russia.
  5. On June 22, 2014, he had his first professional MMA loss in the hands of his compatriot Magomed “Chaborz” Bibulatov via unanimous decision in the ACB Bantamweight Grand Prix Final.
  6. On October 4, 2016, he became the new WFCA Bantamweight Champion. He defeated his compatriot Abdul-Rakhman “The Warrior” Dudaev via unanimous decision when they competed for the then vacant title at “WFCA 30.”
  7. After taking a break in 2015, he returned in 2016 winning three bouts in World Fighting Championship Akhmat, which all took place in Grozny.
  8. On April 1, 2017, he submitted Anderson “Berinja” dos Santos of Brazil via guillotine choke in the first round at “WFCA 35: Battle in Astana.” It took place in Astana, Kazakhstan, marking his first professional MMA bout in Asia.
  9. On September 27, 2017, he defeated Luis Alberto Nogueira of Brazil via unanimous decision at “WFCA 42” in Moscow, which was his second professional MMA bout in the capital city of Russia.
  10. On July 14, 2018, he made his debut in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He defeated Justin “Tank” Scoggins of the United States via split decision at “UFC Fight Night 133” in Boise, Idaho, USA. It was his professional MMA bout in the U.S. and first professional MMA bout in the flyweight division. Scoggins was his first American opponent in a professional MMA bout.
  11. On February 2, 2019, he knocked out Ricardo Ramos of Brazil in the first round at “UFC Fight Night 144” in Fortaleza, Brazil. It was his first knockout win in the UFC and first professional MMA bout in Brazil.
  12. On December 21, 2019, he lost via unanimous decision to Raoni Barcelos of Brazil at “UFC Fight Night 165” in Busan, South Korea. It was his first UFC loss, first professional MMA bout in South Korea and second professional MMA bout in Asia.
  13. On October 18, 2020, he knocked out Mark “Mugen” Striegl of the Philippines after 51 seconds in the first round at “UFC Fight Night 180” on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It was his first professional MMA bout that did not reach 1 minute, his first professional MMA bout in the UAE and his third professional MMA bout in Asia.
