Priya Olivia Serrao was born in Belmannu, Karnataka, India to a Mangalorean Catholic family. She and her family lived in Oman and the United Arab Emirates before moving to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in 2003.

On June 27, 2019, Serrao competed against 27 other Miss Universe Australia 2019 candidates at the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins in Melbourne. She won the title.

Runner-up to Serrao was Bella Kasimba of Western Australia. The respective second, third and fourth runners-up were Marijana Radmanović of Victoria, Julia Edwards of Western Australia and Madeline Cowe of Queensland.

Miss Universe Australia 2020 contestants

On October 28, 2020, Serrao will go back to the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins to crown her successor. It is the 16th edition of the national beauty pageant that selects Australia’s Miss Universe candidate.

Australia currently has 19 Miss Universe placements including the coronation of Kerry Anne Wells in 1972 and Jennifer Hawkins in 2004. The country was represented in the international beauty pageant by Miss Universe Australia in 1952, from 1953 to 1954, in 1958, from 1964 to 1965, from 1992 to 2000 and from 2002 to 2019, by Quest of Quests Dream Girl Australia from 1968 to 1976 and by Miss Australia Beauty from 1977 to 1990.

There are 30 women competing for the Miss Universe Australia 2020 crown. Here are the candidates:
