David Kangogo is a Kenyan comedian more popularly known as David the Student. Here are 13 more things about him:

 

  1. He was born in Kenya.
  2. He attended St. Anthony’s High School’ High School – Kitale in Kitale, Kenya.
  3. He starred in the Kenyan comedy show “Churchill Show,” which premiered on NTV in 2007. He was 17 years old at the time.
  4. In 2017, a rumor claimed that he was dating Kenyan actress and singer Winnie Wambui Naisula Ole Siameto, who is professionally known as Chantelle. He denied the rumor and clarified that they were just friends. Her then fiancé Jibril “Jblessing” Blessing, a former “Churchill Show” director, also dismissed the rumor.
  5. In 2018, he left “Churchill Show” and moved from Kenya to the United States. Months later, he made headlines in Kenya after borrowing money from his fellow Kenyans in the U.S. and failing to pay them. He apologized to them but denied the claims that he fabricated stories so he could borrow money from them.
  6. In the U.S., he tried to audition for “America’s Got Talent” but he never made it to any live shows.
  7. In December 2019, Kenyan celebrities offered him support as he mourned the loss of his mother.
  8. During the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, he worked as a Lyft driver. At about 9:30 p.m. on November 17, 2020, he picked up an intoxicated white couple in Issaquah, Washington named Joseph “Joe” Michael Kassuba Jr. and Holly Kay Nelson Kassuba. During the ride, Joe took off his face mask so he asked him to put it on but the passenged refused to comply so he pulled over and cancelled the ride. After getting out of the vehicle, Jose repeatedly called him a “sand n****r.” Using her phone, Holly started filming and told him, “Joe stop, I’m videoing. Stop, stop. I’m videoing. You stop.”
  9. After the encounter with Joe and Holly, he called Lyft Support and went home. He told Newsweek, “I couldn’t drive. I was literally shaking.”
  10. On November 18, 2020, a GoFundMe page was set up for him. It reached $1,112 of its $2,500 goal on November 25, 2020.
  11. On November 20, 2020, he started to feel ill. On the same day, Joe’s termination from his job as a senior software engineer at Wilbur-Ellis was announced on Twitter by the company.
  12. On November 21, 2020, he took a COVID-19 test. On the same day, Joe apologized to him through a statement, which he sent journalist Jonathan Choe. Joe wrote, “I had too much to drink and lost control of my tongue and I said horrible things that I truly regret.”
  13. On November 23, 2020, the result of his COVID-19 test came back positive. He announced it on social media on November 24, 2020.
