The new Miss Earth will be crowned on November 29, 2020. It is the first time the international beauty pageant is held virtually.

Miss Earth 2020 started on September 21, 2020. It is the 20th edition of the annual international beauty pageant, which marks the first time Bangladesh, Burkina Faso and Syria are participating.

Due to the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, reigning Miss Earth 2019 Nellys Pimentel, 23, of Puerto Rico will crown her successor through a virtual coronation night. Based in the Philippines, British journalist James Deakin, 48, will host the event, which will be aired on FOXlife and TV5.

Like in the 19 previous editions, the three runners-up will also have titles. These are Miss Earth-Air 2020, Miss Earth-Water 2020 and Miss Earth-Fire 2020.

United Nations Industrial Development Organization president Hassan Eltigani Malik of Sudan will serve as a judge. He will be joined by violinist Iskandar Widjaja of Germany and Indonesia, restaurateur Michael Ma of Singapore, singer and television host Patricia Zavala of Venezuela, disc jockey, model and singer Natalia Barulich of the United States and Binibining Pilipinas-Universe 1998 Jewel May Lobaton of the Philippines.

Prior to the coronation night, the candidates participated in the national costume competition, the evening gown competition, the swimsuit competition, the resort wear competition, the sports wear competition and the talent competition. The candidates were divided into four continental group namely Africa, Asia and Oceania, Europe and the Americas.

Among the top performers in the preliminary events were Roxanne Allison Baeyens of the Philippines with three gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal and Gwenivere Ifeanyieze of Nigeria with three gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal. It must be noted though that Pimentel did not have the most preliminary medals in the 19th edition of the competition.

Still, I believe that both Baeyens and Ifeanyieze will perform very well in the coronation night. Here are my predictions:

I believe these contestants will finish in the Top 20:

  • Amira Naïmah Bassané (Burkina Faso)
  • Elvira Jain (Moldova)
  • Eileen Mary O’Donnell (Ireland)
  • Mariia Rezniuk (Belarus)
  • Macarena Quinteros (Chile)
  • Kelly Ávila (Costa Rica)
  • Aya Kadjo (Côte d’Ivoire)
  • Anette Müürsepp (Estonia)
  • Battogtokh Buyantogtokh (Mongolia)
  • Nora Emilie Nakken (Norway)

I predict that these finalists will make it to the Top 10 but will not win a title:

  • Krystal Badillo (Puerto Rico)
  • Anna Tode (Japan)
  • Tessa le Conge (Netherlands)
  • Roxanne Allison Baeyens (Philippines)
  • Amara Shune Lei (Myanmar)
  • Cintiana Harry (Guyana)
