Transylvania’s Bianca Tirsin is Miss Universe Romania 2020, crowned in Bucharest

The announcement of the coronation of Miss Universe Romania 2020 Bianca Lorena Tirsin, 22, was made via Antenna Stars on December 1, 2020, which also happens to be the national day of Romania. Hailing from Transylvania, Romania, she bested 29 other candidates, making her the official Miss Universe 2020 candidate from her home country.

Runner-up to Tirsin was Miruna Alexandra Doldor, 19, while Diana Palimariu, 20, and Ada-Maria Ileana, 23, were the respective second and third runners-up. Cristina Brudiu won the Miss Popularity award.

Hosted by Catalin Cazacu and Catalina Tinescu, the Miss Universe Romania 2020 coronation night took place in Bucharest, Romania in October 2020 but the show has yet to be aired. Iulia Albu, Elena Ionescu and Sorin Constantinescu served as judges.

 

Tirsin, who stands 176 cm, will be the 17th woman to represent Romania at Miss Universe. If she lands at least in the Top 20, she will be the first candidate from her country to place in the international beauty pageant.

Miss Universe Romania 2020 was an inaugural competition. The first 16 Miss Universe candidates from Romania were winners of Miss Romania.

The first Miss Universe queen, Armi Kuusela, 86, of Finland, was crowned in 1952. Romania started sending a representative in the beauty pageant in 1991 but did not participate in from 1999 to 2008 and from 2014 to 2015.

Whether or not Tirsin wins Miss Universe 2020, she already makes history as the first woman to represent Romania in three major international beauty pageant. Representing her home country, she won as Miss Supranational 2017 second runner-up in Poland and Miss International 2018 third runner-up in Japan.

 

Tirsin grew up in Transylvania, which is known for its rich history and the scenery of its Carpathian landscape. Believing that education has the power to transform lives, she has been advocating for children’s access to quality education since 2015 while campaigning against bullying in her home country.

An entrepreneur, Tirsin is managing her online business. She also works with several charitable institutions including Cetatea Voluntarilor and Fundatia Renasterea.
