The Republic of Abkhazia is a partially recognized state in the South Caucasus in Western Asia. The United Nations recognizes the polity as de jure part of Georgia, which views it as an autonomous republic.
Abkhazia declared its independence on July 23, 1992. UN members Nauru, Nicaragua, Russia, Syria and Venezuela recognize Abkhazia as a state.
Aslan Bzhania, 57, is the incumbent president of Abkhazia. He assumed office on April 23, 2020.
