Officially called the Slovak Republic, Slovakia is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe. The country is bordered by Poland to the north, the Czech Republic to the northwest, Ukraine to the east, Austria to the southwest and Hungary to the south.
Czechoslovakia proclaimed its independence on October 28, 1918 and peacefully split into two independent countries namely the Czech Republic and Slovakia on January 1, 1993. On January 19, 1993, Slovakia was admitted to the United Nations.
Zuzana Čaputová, 47, is the incumbent and fifth president of Slovakia. She assumed office on June 15, 2019.
