Officially called the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, Transnistria is a breakaway state in Eastern Europe.The unrecognized state is located in the narrow strip of land between the Dniester river and the Moldovan–Ukrainian border and is designated by Moldova as the Administrative-Territorial Units of the Left Bank of the Dniester.

The United Nations recognizes Transnistria as de jure part of Moldova. In 2005, Moldova and Ukraine agreed that all Transnistrian companies that seek to export goods through the Ukrainian border must be registered with the Moldovan authorities.

Abkhazia, Artsakh, South Ossetia and Transnistria are the four members of the Community of Democracy and Rights of Nations or the Commonwealth of Unrecognized States, which was formed on June 14, 2006. Transnistria’s incumbent and third president Vadim Krasnoselsky, 50, assumed office on December 16, 2016.
